The Palestine Football Association (PFA) strongly condemns the decision by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir to prohibit the activities of the Sons of Jerusalem Club (Nadi Abna’ Al-Quds) and suspend all of its activities, pursuant to a decision issued on 4 November 2026, imposing the ban for a period of six months.

The PFA stresses that this decision constitutes a blatant assault on the right to participate in sport, a direct targeting of Palestinian sports institutions, and a systematic attempt to restrict the opportunities available to Palestinian children and young people to exercise their fundamental right to sport, education, personal development and community participation.

This fascist policy, rooted in repression, exclusion and the targeting of civil and sporting institutions, stands in clear contradiction to basic ethical and humanitarian principles, as well as international conventions and agreements that safeguard the rights of children and young people, protect freedom of assembly and association, and uphold the right of all people to participate in sporting and cultural activities without discrimination.

These measures also violate the spirit of the Olympic Charter and the principles of FIFA, which recognise the role of sport in promoting human dignity, equality and tolerance, and safeguarding everyone's right to participate in football free from discrimination and exclusion.

The targeting of the Sons of Jerusalem Club cannot be viewed in isolation from a wider series of measures aimed at undermining the Palestinian sporting presence in Jerusalem and dismantling institutions that play an essential role in supporting and protecting young people through sport. Palestinian clubs are not merely venues for playing football; they are educational, social and national institutions that provide children and young people with a safe environment in which to learn, develop a sense of belonging and build their future.

The Palestine Football Association holds the Israeli occupation authorities fully responsible for the consequences of this decision and calls upon FIFA, UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and all international sporting and human rights organisations to adopt a clear position on these violations. Expressions of concern and condemnation alone are not enough. Concrete action must be taken to protect Palestinian sports institutions and guarantee their right to continue their work and activities without interference or intimidation.

The PFA emphasises that protecting Palestinian sport is not merely an administrative or sporting matter; it is an ethical, humanitarian and international responsibility. The targeting of clubs and sporting institutions, and the denial of children and young people of their right to participate in sport, cannot be accepted or treated as an ordinary measure.

The PFA further calls for accountability for the Israel Football Association (IFA) over the continued violations affecting Palestinian sport, and urges the adoption of measures against it, including the suspension of its participation in international football competitions and activities until compliance with the laws, regulations and principles governing international football is ensured.

*Sport is a right, not a privilege to be granted or withdrawn at the discretion of the occupying authorities. Jerusalem will remain an integral part of Palestinian sport, and its clubs and institutions will remain an inseparable part of its identity and existence.*
